APM Terminals is set to implement a policy change related to Saturday demurrage fees for all inbound containers. Starting April 9th, 2022, Saturdays will no longer be counted as exempt from demurrage. Once containers are discharged into the terminal, Saturdays will be counted within the four free days of dwell time. There are no changes to when the free-time clock begins.
These steps are an attempt to address the excessive terminal congestion and issues with import dwell times. APM will continue to open its gate for the first shift (8 am to 4 pm) every Saturday for the foreseeable future.
