Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) CEO Keith Creel announced that a Canadian rail strike is likely in late August due to stalled labor negotiations with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). The Canadian Industrial Relations Board will decide by August 9 which commodities must continue moving during a strike.
TCRC members, who represent engineers and conductors, have authorized a strike with 72 hours’ notice. A strike would impact CPKC and Canadian National, as well as commuter operations in major Canadian cities. Creel emphasized the potential damage to Canada’s reputation as a reliable trading partner.
