Cargo Still Moving In/Out of Italy, Despite Lockdown

Transportation of goods remains a priority for Italians, despite changes to daily life that come with a nationwide lockdown intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Yesterday, Italy announced a national ban on most travel, imposed restrictions on social activity, and urged people to stay home.

News outlets are reporting the restrictions will be in place through April 3^rd, but cargo is still moving with some limitations:

• Ports in Italy are not experiencing delays.
• Blank sailings are mostly occurring as a result of Chinese export inactivity.
• Airports are open, but most airlines are reducing their passenger flights, which is impacting some air cargo availability.
• Commercial freighters in and out of Milan (MXP) or Rome (FCO) are maintaining their regular schedules.
• Production for many manufacturing companies continues, and domestic transportation has not been affected.
