New USDA Database for Agricultural Commodities

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) developed a new database that is a single source to search and display import requirements for animal, plant, and agriculturally related products.  The new database, called “Agricultural Commodity Import Requirements” (ACIR), will replace the Fruit and Vegetable Imports Requirement (FAVIR) database and the Cut Flowers and Greenery Manual, Seeds Not for Planting Manual, and Miscellaneous Processed Products Manual.

Users of FAVIR or these manuals should begin to use ACIR now.  The FAVIR database will no longer be available on the APHIS website, and the webpage will redirect you to the ACIR landing page starting September 30, 2022.  APHIS will also remove the three manuals from its USDA website on October 3, 2022.

ACIR provides information about:

• Treatment schedules
• Inspection procedures
• Necessary information to determine admissibility
• APHIS import permit requirements

According to APHIS, the benefits of using ACIR include:

• A user-friendly search tool for commodity import information
• All relevant import requirements for a given commodity presented in one place
• Self-service responses to entry requirement questions

Users can view short online tutorials to learn how to navigate the new interface.
