Import Duties on Semiconductors

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced new guidance regarding Section 232 Import Duties on semiconductors and related products.

Key Details:

• Effective Date: January 15, 2026
• Duty Rate: 25% ad valorem on certain semiconductor imports meeting specific technical parameters
• HTSUS Codes Impacted: 8471.50, 8471.80, 8473.30 under heading 9903.79.01
• Exemptions: Products for U.S. data centers, repairs/replacements, R&D, startups, consumer electronics, industrial applications, and public sector use may qualify for 0% additional duty under headings 9903.79.02–9903.79.09.
